You know you work too much when ...

A member came into the Credit Union today asking about the repossessed vehicle that has been sitting in our parking lot, night and day, for a long time now.

When asked to describe the vehicle, we discovered he was talking about mine.

Oi.

Get Well Card

My co-workers brought me some flowers and a card.
Our Member Service Rep is a spit-fire 75 year old lady. When I saw her drawing on the left hand side, I cracked up.

Beneath the drawing of me falling is the caption "Owwwiiieee!!!"
I will cherish it forever!

A Time For Firsts

There are certain things in life that you will never forget.

Taking a ferry ride with your family to see your grandparents.

Going fishing ... and then being told you would have to hold the fish up for the camera ... and then adamantly telling them you would do NO such thing ....

Finding out that you belong on a beach

Holding your new baby sister .... even though you have no idea why she is there

Chasing a lightening storm and catching it on camera

Going to a corn maze ... and jumping out of your skin when the mannequin at the end of the maze turns out to be a real person.

Shoving cake in your new husbands face ...

... then taking off in a dead run so he can't get you back

Watching dolphins chase you right beside your boat on a warm summers day.
And one of the things
that will stay with you the longest
Is the day that you go for a hike
and fall off of a cliff
That's the day you get your nose stitched
and your skull stapled
And the very first time you ever break a bone.
Luckily, it's your foot ... so you get to be a gimp on crutches
for the next 4 - 6 weeks.
Good going.

Dear Jonny & Deb

I will admit, I stopped breathing for a little while this morning when I read the headline on CNN "Hundreds Dead in China Eartquake"

But before freaking out and sending you 25 emails to ensure your safety, I decided to google a map of your area to find out just how close you are.

Turns out, not very. In case you're wondering, it would take you about 1 day and 13 hours to get to Qinghai Province. Only about 2,790 kilometers.

You would also have to go through 18 toll roads to get there.

Holy Moly.

Anger Blackouts

You know those moments of anger… when you are silently shaking with rage and have curse words and retorts and tears and foreign languages swirling around in your head, but nothing comes out?

The kind that makes the blood rushing through your ears SO LOUD that you can’t hear anything, even the person patiently pulling at your elbow trying to calm you down?

I call those my anger black outs.

I go into hyper-mode. It’s as if the world around me slows down and I acquire magical powers that would allow me to lift a car over my head or jump over a 6 foot brick wall. It is the time that I am so powerful, that the person in front of me would probably shrivel into nothing if I had laser beams for eyes.

I haven’t had very many full blown episodes … mainly, they tend to be only half-strength … but those full blown ones tend to stick in my memories.

One of the times must have happened when I was in 5th or 6th grade. I have no clue what the buck-toothed blond boy in front of me did to raise my ire, but it shot through the roof and that was that.

For whatever reason, that day we had our desks pushed together in groups of four as we ate our lunch. The anger blackout struck, and I sat quacking in silent rage. I couldn’t stop staring at him, thinking of the many nasty things I could do to his face, or what I could say to make him stop being such a jack-hole.

I was eating my pudding cup. I hadn’t even taken a bite of it yet … but I didn’t care.

I peeled off the lid and dipped it into the cup to get a nice coating on the metallic-paper surface

Then I reached across my desk and plastered it on his forehead.

It may not have been the best way to deal with the situation at that point, but oh … did it ever make me feel better. When the teacher told me to apologize I told him that I simply couldn’t … I wasn’t the least bit sorry and would surely do it again if I had another pudding cup.

Curiously, I was never sent to detention.
Maybe the teacher was scared that he was next.

Non sum qualis eram bonae sub regno Cynarae

Last night, ah, yesternight, betwixt her lips and mine
There fell thy shadow, Cynara! thy breath was shed
Upon my soul between the kisses and the wine;
And I was desolate and sick of an old passion,
Yea, I was desolate and bowed my head:
I have been faithful to thee, Cynara! in my fashion.

All night upon mine heart I felt her warm heart beat,
Night-long within mine arms in love and sleep she lay;
Surely the kisses of her bought red mouth were sweet;
But I was desolate and sick of an old passion,
When I awoke and found the dawn was gray:
I have been faithful to thee, Cynara! in my fashion.

I have forgot much, Cynara! gone with the wind,
Flung roses, roses riotously with the throng,
Dancing, to put thy pale, lost lilies out of mind;
But I was desolate and sick of an old passion,
Yea, all the time, because the dance was long:
I have been faithful to thee, Cynara! in my fashion.

I cried for madder music and for stronger wine,
But when the feast is finished and the lamps expire,
Then falls thy shadow, Cynara! the night is thine;
And I am desolate and sick of an old passion,
Yea, hungry for the lips of my desire:
I have been faithful to thee Cynara! in my fashion.
